Hurrah, this is my last dollar
And my baby's waking up
And the moon is breaking up with the sun
This is our last hour
What a joy to see the Maumee rolling by
Like chocolate milk
Past its hulking mills
And I love you
And the band we saw just blew my mind
And this car is fun to drive
And Cleveland Heights is fun to find
Hurrah, this is my last dollar
And my darling's waking up
And the moon is breaking up with the sun

Laundry Go Round

Laundry go round
Like demons I cast out
And paths I've damned
To join this band
I was soft, but now I'm sound
Down to the bar
For Miller Lite in jars
And Pabst in cans
As summer can leave you soft
When you were hard
You can't go back, just turn your shoulder
Just write a lot you'll feel much older
With cherry ghosts in our guitars
Stage blood and skeletons
Litter halls once haunted while your
Laundry goes round
Like demons I cast out
Those long white hands
Grab summer plans
Once you walked, but now you bound
Once you walked, but now you bound

Metropark
03:23
|

Long ago and seasons past
In a town far away
I knew the world threw Metroparks
And mixtapes I had made
I would ride uneven grounds
Warped and buckled bike paths
And every harsh cicada sound
Blew alarms in my past
And the summer walked all over me
As I rolled over it
I was 19 fighting in the work force
And I didn't give a shit
I fled in tears my college town
Leaving untaken paths
I found the youth lust smothering
And urgent did seem my tasks
When at last October came
And I had started a band
The lonely birds of Kensington
No longer ate from my hand
And the autumn's honeyed entropy
Made haste my welcome guest
I was 19 moving to the city
Making love with trust and debt

Crime On a Summer Day
01:47
|
|||
I could pull of a crime on a summer day
Borrow a car and break a wishbone in two
Long end I head back to Charleston
Short end I take all my friends to the zoo
And drinks are on me
The dinners are free
I'm Ricardo Montalban and you're my Tattoo
We'll sail to Belize
Follow the breeze
Life is so easy when nothing is true
I could pull off a crime on a summer day
I could pull off a crime on a summer day

The Margaret Letters

Margaret, Margaret on a San Diego beach
Loosens collars on the waves of water priests
And calls the schools of fish on holiday
Margaret writes me
Margaret, Margaret is a late at night time wish
A sun-kissed California longshot
With a man at sea
And time to gratify my whimsy
Margaret writes me
Margaret, Margaret I've read maps for you
I know you live just South of Cardiff By the Sea
But do you go to Scripps Aquarium?
That's where I'd be

Radio harvest
Aggressive sunsets bake the radio
And murder conflict
Radio harvest
Two feet forward at the light you go
Radio harvest
Reception clear, Motown is here
Radio harvest
Soundtrack to sublime summer nights
Radio harvest
"Hey Tonight," "Piano Man"
Radio harvest

It's the anniversary of my stupid little war
And everybody's eyes are at half mast
Lonely and dogless
Half-vicious, naked
It's Disneywheel, it's biscuitwheel
Never been that much for dancing
Musicians just don't dance
They listen, they wish they were playing
And swish and swish gin
Musicians don't dance
They wish they were playing
They wish they were playing
It's the anniversary of my stupid little war
All the ladies' shirts are at half mast
Insert cold cocktail
Cry hard on church steps
Hot August Night
God bless you, Neil
Musicians don't dance
They wish they were playing
God bless you, Neil
I tried and she forgave me
It's Disneywheel, it's biscuitwheel

Summer is Over
02:51
|

Raise the roofbeams
Autumn harvest
The cherry ghosts murmur in the orchard
While I walk into town
Moon wrapped in wales of brown
Summer's over now
Summer's wonder how
Glad I am that some of it
Stayed in your bright face
Summer's over now
Summer's over
Bury deep the bikes and roman candles
Raise the roofbeams
You are immodest
Like so much salt you clear the lanes between us
As we shoulder the day
Wind hauls the leaves away
Summer's over now
Summer's wonder how
Glad I am that some of it
Stayed in your bright face
Summer's over now
Summer's over
Hurry in the flowers frost has handled
Frost has handled...

A dozen records in my arms
Whisper "Tim, don't be afraid
Without regret, just pay."
And I paid
When you were overseas
I wasn't alone, I wasn't alone, I wasn't alone
When you were working late
I wasn't alone, I wasn't alone, I wasn't alone
Too weak to tell you face to face
All night I prayed for you to ask
Misguided hopes fell fast
And were...
When you were overseas
I wasn't alone, I wasn't alone, I wasn't alone
When you were working late
I wasn't alone, I wasn't alone, I wasn't alone
When you found out I heard your crying late
Just listening to your tape
But then at last you had to deal with me
And when the morning broke
The tears were on my sleeves
